Sickboy

Join hosts Jeremie, Brian, and Taylor as they hangout and have an unapologetic, unpolished and unfiltered discussion about what it's like to live life with a disease, in the hopes of finding humour in an otherwise taboo and sometimes dark subject.

We spend most of our time talking about personal illness, but this week we dive into the world of Social illness with none other than the wise and poignant Dr. Ingrid Waldron. Dr. Waldron is the author of the book, There's Something in the Water: Environmental Racism in Indigenous and Black Communities. The book was also the inspiration for the Netflix Documentary by the same name. It examines the legacy of environmental racism and its health impacts in Indigenous and Black communities in Canada, using Nova Scotia as a case study, and the grassroots resistance activities by Indigenous and Black communities against the pollution and poisoning of their communities. This conversation is an important one. Sit down, open up your ears and your hearts and enjoy!

So if you need a pick me up, settle in for a stimulating session with the boys and their new friend Dr. Timothy Walker. He's a psychotherapist with a specialty in mindfulness but more importantly, he's a dude with a kind soul and some incredible wisdom to share.

This past week has been very challenging for our community here in Nova Scotia. We are in mourning and our love and thoughts go out to everyone who was affected by the senseless violent act that took place over the weekend. Today we are releasing a segment from an upcoming episode with Dr. Timothy Walker. A guided meditation to focus on the power of unconditional love. Music provided by the extraordinarily talented Joshua Van Tassel. The Provincial Mental Health Crisis Line is available 24/7 for anyone experiencing a mental health crisis or someone concerned about them. 1-888-429-8167.

To find cures and therapies for people living with GRIN Disorder. His 13-year-old son is one of those people. Jer is ballin' out with that CERB money and bought a talking toilet. Lauren admits to a past front bum water jet trauma. Brian is here to kink shame and Tay celebrates "national horny day" by engaging in some candlelit eye gazing. All that silliness is followed by an eye-opening conversation with David MacDonald, a Senior Economist from the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives. We talk about how the heck Canada is able to pay our CERB, the difference between a recession and a depression, and much more!

It's another round of Feel Good Friday which also just happens to fall on the day of our lord - Good Friday. We open it up by putting the fear of God into you with a banger of a tune by the talented Darren Craig. Get ready for some laughs brought to you from our boy Tracy Morgan, a prickly grandpa and some of Brians's horrible dad jokes. Then the hosts chit-chat with Ryan, an ICU Nurse here in Halifax.

This week we have a doubleheader. First, we speak to Emily! One of the very first Nova Scotians who was diagnosed with and has now recovered from COVID-19. Spoiler alert, it is no walk in the gosh darn park. Which is exactly why y'all need to #StayTheBlazesHome. Then we chat with Adam Kucharski - an epidemiologist, mathematician, and associate professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where he works on analysis of infectious disease outbreaks. Spoiler alert, he's smart. We talk about the sobering data that is coming out surrounding the virus and what that data tells us about our future.
